Sweet Search: an excellent search engine for students, as everything has been reviewed by educators beforehand. Easy to search. Gives enough info in the link description that students can tell whether the site would be helpful. I didn't see anything to indicate reading level. That would be helpful. See information about the different parts of the site below the screen shot.

Sweet Search2Day looked kind of like Kaned. Had a blog question pertaining to the news, 5 news widgets + links to others, Today in History, Daily Doses, Photos of the Day, Words of the Day, Poem of the Day, Interview of the Day, Question of the Day from the NYT, Web Guides on a specific topic, Spotlight, Brain teasers, Weekly News, and 3 cartoon links - Calvin and Hobbs, Peanuts, Dilbert. It was more colorful than Kaned. I think the kids would like it.

SweetSearch for School Librarians. I wasn't very impressed with this section. It did have a twitter feed that looked good. The guides were pretty basic.

The Sweetsites for Teachers was good. It had some basic sites for various areas and good information, especially on student problems - ADHD, Collaborative Team Teaching, Differentiated Instruction, Learning Disabilites, Autism, in addition to subject areas. I was not as impressed with the student sites. They were good quality, but very general. I don't think they would satisfy the students needs.

SweetSearch Biographies: Good lists of biographies by topic. I especially liked the filtering component. You could filter by Women - Artists - United States for example. Could be very useful in any class studying a certain career area or region.

SweetSearch Social Studies: Middle School resources were not great, but it was easy to find resources by date, which would be very helpful to classes looking for information on a certain period in history. Resources for science were also included in the Social Studies area.

Ten Steps to Beeter Web Research has good ideas, but could not be used directly with students. Too many words. There is a good presentation for teachers that goes with it. Their ideas could be incorporated in an activity for students.
